Your Bio

There's just something about photography that I have been fascinated with ever since I was a kid. I was a professional photographer in Seattle throughout my 20's and then gave it up to pursue other passions and well... make more money. Over the past few years technology and digital photography have caught up to the quality I had been use to in the "film" days and so I have found myself enjoying photography once again. The thing I enjoy most about it now is that I don't have to make money at it, I can just enjoy being an artist once again. I now live in Seattle Washington in the heart of downtown (Belltown) and I enjoy photographing locally and as I travel the world.

Eva and Patricio's Civil Wedding : There are two weddings when you get married in Argentina. The civil (court) wedding and the Church Wedding. The civil wedding was the day before. Patricio had asked me to be the "best man" but because I was not a local citizen I was unable to. It's ok, I got some great photos. :)

Buenos Aires 2007 : After almost five years of waiting to go to Buenos Airess with Eva and Patricio we finally got a chance to meet here. What I didn't know until the last minute was that they are getting married. Due to the limited bandwidth I'm not able to upload the highest resolution images. When I get back home to Seattle, I will work on it more. For now, I hope you enjoy the photos.

Portland Tangofestival 2008 : Views of the Portland Tango Festival 2008.

It's been a couple years since I've been to the Portland Tango Festival. When I first started to get back into photography (now digital) there were still some challenges with low light and high speed. However, Nikon decided to come out with a new camera (D3) that addresses both the problems of quality, low light and high speed. Having been frustrated in the past with the lighting at Milongas I figured it was time to see what the new Nikon can do. After looking at some of the images I can say that I'm honestly happy with the results.

So this is the results of me playing with my camera gear, the available light (no flash was ever used) and the Tango dancers at the festivals. Some of you I know and many of you I don't. I hope you enjoy the images as much as I have enjoyed creating them.

NOTE: Clay just sent out a link so I guess I should post up the images from the grand ball. Check back in a day or so if you don't see them.

As with all my work, these are for private use only (even if downloaded, purchased or printed) and copy written by Wesley Kronick. If you're interested in using these for commercial purposes, please contact me directly. Thanks -Wesley

Alex's "The Thing" 2009 : I've been to Alex's "The Thing" a few times and each time it is a bit different. This time I felt t more in the mood to photograph then to dance so I found myself trying to capture something different than before. I grabbed a few "night shots" (more details later) with some flash units until one of the dancers complained and I tried to capture some of the fun of the Chacarera (probably at the expense of Alex's wonderful dance). Thanks Alex for being a good sport about it. :)

I played with "extremes". From ultra wide (Nikkor 14mm-24mm f2.8), then with the telephoto using the Nikkor 300mm f2.8. Low light with the Nikkor 85mm f1.4 and depth of field with the lens baby. The flash shots involved two SB800 flashes, one remote and one mounted on my Nikon D3. Honestly I hate flash photography in milongas because it's always difficult to capture the color and mood with a "daylight" flash. So this time I put a warming gel on the flash to try and keep the warmth of the room. I wasn't able to play with it much because of how disruptive a flash can be. I was told afterwards that flashes weren't allowed.. DOH!

If you like my work and you want to stick it on your site or facebook I'd ask that you keep my credits and link to photobywesley.com. No commercial use without prior permission. Thanks!
